After 24 years Vans Warped Tour has come to an end. It’s been one incredible summer to experience unforgettable memories with music, friends, and opportunities. One of the first opening bands on one of the main stages at VWT was Issues at the Journey’s Right foot stage. People were coming in and waiting in the crowd were ecstatic to witness Issues perform. The energy from the crowd was crazy! They were jumping around and creating a mosh circle in the middle for Tyler to see. Next to take the stage on the Journey’s Right foot stage was Set It Off. Set It Off are no stranger to the Warped Tour scene but this year was selected as a special guest to attend couple dates. They began the set with their new single “Killer In the Mirror”, then with the crowd favorite “The Haunting” while during part of the chorus Cody decided to sing along with the crowd. It was a joyful moment as he held onto the crowd for support and to hear them sing back his songs.
The next set to play was Silverstein, the band’s lead singer Shane took the time to thank Kevin Lyman for letting them on VWT stage for the past 15 years. They then followed up with playing “Smile In Your Sleep” with lead guitarist Paul playing his heart out. Another stage in VWT was the Ernie Ball one. It featured some upcoming bands like Palaye Royale. The bands had started off with “Don’t feel Quite Right”, the energy of the crowd was so upbeat once these band of brothers set foot on the stage.
For certain dates, there would be selected special guest one of them being Asking Alexandria. The crowd lost it once they started with “The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)” before continuing with “Into the Fire” another crowd favorite. Rhythm guitarist Cameron always feeds off the crowd’s energy when going out onstage and rocking out. One of the most important things for me at a show or festival is seeing how the crowd reacts, whether by screaming, putting their hands up in the air, the horn symbol or just by watching what’s in front of them during the set.
State Champs fans were so eager since it felt like a home show for the band who is from Albany, New York. From the bass player, Tony getting lost in the music while playing to Ryan screaming his heart out on “Dead and Gone”. Playing on the Owly.FM stage was Makeout, they won in a competition for Battle of the Bands in 2014, playing nine shows in VWT in 2015 and now playing all summer. Lead singer and front-man Sam hitting the stage with “Childish” and the entire atmosphere of the audience. The Amity Affliction took to the Journey stage, with the crowd sensing the mood to go wild it was quite the freeing feeling being able to express themselves through the music. During “Open letter” bass player Ahren took part of leading the crowd through singing the breakdown letting the crowd take part of the show. Lastly, Tonight Alive entered the stage to perform. One of the female fronted bands at Vans Warped Tour. Having Jenna step onto the stage and command the crowd was a delight to see. It was a great way to end 24 years of Warped Tour.
