MICRA // CHILD GROWS OLD - A REVIEW

Today I bring you ‘Child Grows Old’ a fun and wistful electro-pop ditty by Sydney-based Electronic-Shoegaze duo, Micra. The duo is comprised of Producer/Guitarist Robbie Cain from Australia and Bulgarian Singer Ivana Kay.Singer Ivana Kay’s atmospheric, breathy yet luscious vocals bounce along the synth and guitar drove track. Providing a unique contrast along with the beachy vibes, 90s shoegaze rhythm, and melodies that also feature prominently throughout the track.Member Robbie Cain said he drew inspiration from such artists as Zero 7, Deerhunter, and Beach House looking to add his own contemporary take on it. It’s something which he and his bandmate Ivana have successfully done on this single. The song also succeeds well in its lyric ability, easily stoking the listeners sense of nostalgia without coming across dated. This was something supremely important to the band considering what the song is about according to Robbie Cain. A song about moving forward and not staying stagnant, and the struggles that could bring.

"The song explores a time in life which felt like nothing had changed for too long. Waiting around for something to happen without knowing where to begin. It's an internal conversation about forcing yourself to jump into the next phase of life and facing the obstacles that come out of that."
