INTERVIEW WITH ... INDIE ELECTRO-POP BAND GOLD FIELDS

Gold Fields are an Indie Electronic Pop five-piece consisting of Mark Robert Fuller, Vinci Andanar, Rob Clifton, Luke Peldys, and Ryan D’Sylva from Australia. The band released their second full-length record, Dalawa since 2013’s Black Sun. The band's song ‘Cocoon’ from Dalawa was also just remixed by DJ/Producer Maya Jane Coles. I interviewed Gold Fields about their new music, the Maya Jane Coles remix and much more!THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Would you guys consider yourselves Morning Birds or Night Owls? GOLD FIELDS: Haha well I love early mornings, especially in summer. I try to go to bed early. So yeah I'd say morning bird for me. THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Can we talk about how this remix of ‘Cocoon’ with Maya Jane Coles came together?GOLD FIELDS: Yeah, when we found out Maya was keen to do a remix, we were so stoked! We're big fans of hers and to have her work on some of our music just feels like an honour really, we're so glad that she was onboard and the remix is so killer, we love what she's done with it.THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What’s a typical writing and creative process like for Gold Fields? Particularly what was the creative and recording process like on your latest release ‘Dalawa’? GOLD FIELDS: It varies from song to song but Vin and Run write all the music and do all the production, so they've produced this whole record and written all the music.I come up with vocal ideas all the time and record them on my phone or record shitty little demos to simple chords on my laptop... so I have like a bank of little song ideas... then when Ry or Vin come up with some music, they'll send it to me or we'll get together... and I usually start working one of my exsisting ideas over the music and changing the key or timing or whatever so that it starts to work with the music... And then it starts to become a song and and then we go from there.... That's usually how the good ones have started out. Or sometimes a new melody idea just comes out of the mood of the music. Vin and Ry have also written vocals and lyrics as well.https://open.spotify.com/album/2PiXh0S6J2uMA5iW2LtYoH?si=t1YGjZ-pRWGxCrbIIPxWJwTRB: For my readers that haven’t heard of Gold Fields. What is your band's origin story?GOLD FIELDS: Ahhhh well we grew up playing music together. We were friends through highschool and then would go out clubbing together in Melbourne and we'd go to festivals and all the while we were playing and writing music. So we just kept doing it and here we are. TRB: Here’s a fun one. If you could write a song based off any book or comic book what book would choose and what type of song would it be? GOLD FIELDS: Ummm maybe Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harrari. Or teenage mutant ninja turtles.TRB: If you could work with any artist who would it be and why? GOLD FIELDS: I think Nick Littlemore, just because for some reason everything he works on seems to really hit a button for me. I'm a huge fan of Pnau, Empire of the Sun and the album he worked on with Groove Armada is one of my favourite albums. The answer would definitely be different from the other guys, I'm not sure who'd they'd choose to work with.TRB: What artists or bands have been “On Repeat” on your playlists of late? GOLD FIELDS: Diiv, Tropical Fuck Storm, Roy Blues, City Calm Down, and I have a nearly 3 year old Daughter, so most of the music I hear these days is Frozen and Moana and Disney soundtracks, which is fine with me. Honestly in my own time it's like quiet time or Brian Eno, Ambient, or an audiobook. TRB: And what's next on the horizon for Gold Fields?GOLD FIELDS: We have some more remixes coming for Dalawa, some really awesome ones along with Maya's. We've just released a remix Com Truise has done for out song Waterfall, which is a trip as well.TRB: Anything else you guys would like to add? Thank you for your time!GOLD FIELDS: No worries at all, thank you

So there you have it. The "Cocoon" remix single is a must listen and be sure to also stream their new one 'Waterfall (Com Truise Remix)' here
