INTERVIEW WITH... TORONTO POP NEWCOMER ANGELIQUE

Angelique is a Toronto based Pop/R&B newcomer looking to make a name for herself. Her "Wings" (Freestyle) is a experimental track where she expresses many of raw emotions that todays youth go through. Angelique discusses that and much more here at The Reclusive Blogger.THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: I always start out with an easy and quick question. So are you a CD or Vinyl type of girl?ANGELIQUE: I’m definitely a Vinyl girl. Its been a staple of my whole life honestly, my dad and I have been collecting Vinyl together since I was really young. He has two record players in his living room, I have an Audio Technica all set up in my room with Wharfdale speakers and everything. I feel like there is a unique physical connection to the music that comes from listening on Vinyl. Flipping over the record, setting the needle weight, etc… you can’t get that with a CD!THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: For my readers of The Reclusive Blogger that may not know about you Angelique can you tell us how you got started as a singer and songwriter? ANGELIQUE: Its hard to pin point exactly how I got started, I mean when I was young we had a beautiful elevated porch and I would put on shows for my parents and neighbours all the time. I loved writing and I loved music and performance. I never felt it was a feasible option until my brother actually pushed me to take the first steps in releasing music. I’m so grateful that he did, I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else now. I guess in short, music has always been a family affair, and that has led me to where I am now. THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What was the inspiration behind Wings (Freestyle)?ANGELIQUE: Wings is inspired by situations in my life, and my friends lives. I’ve seen people be completely walked all over, taken advantage of, and I’ve experienced it myself. I wanted to speak against it but not in a way that drags those causing the hurt, instead I wanted to create a little guide for how to deal with it. How to find your “Wings”. It’s important to first know that you’re not alone when you’re going through heartache, but its equally important to understand where to go from there. Once you hit the bottom, you can only go up. TRB: What’s a typical creative and writing process like for you? ANGELIQUE: If you listen to a lot of my music so far, its pretty melancholy and self reflective. I feel like my writing process is a therapy. I know a lot of people say that but I think thats why people in general gravitate towards creative outlets, its a way to deal with the hard emotions. And its productive. Writing has been a way for me to sit with my emotions, and really reflect and turn them into something hopefully beautiful. every time I sit down to write thats my goal. I would describe it as organic, and free flowing therapy.  TRB: What advice do you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?ANGELIQUE: Don’t be afraid to ask for help, I’ve never met anyone who is truly happy and successful that isn’t willing to help lead others towards that same goal. I mean my messages are always open, I’m happy to give advice and share whatever I know with others. Also remember it all doesn’t have to happen right away, keep grinding away and focus on moving forward in any way possible. Tunnel vision to your goals, whatever they are.TRB: Switching gears a bit... If you could live in any fictional universe, which would you choose?ANGELIQUE: Oh my gosh, I’d definitely have to choose Harry Potter, the whole “wizarding world”. Id love to have larger than life powers, and go to Hogwarts. Those were some of my all time favourite books and movies growing up. TRB: What artists and bands have been “On Repeat” on your playlists recently? ANGELIQUE: Of course Daniel Caesars new album has been huge, gotta love another Toronto artist. I also recently found an amazing artist from Australia named Kaiit; she’s so incredible the music is like hip hop meets jazz in the most magical way. I also will forever love Frank Ocean, SZA, and other RnB powerhouses. A lot of Joey Bada$$ is always playing. Definitely a good mix of music.TRB: And what's next on the horizon for you?ANGELIQUE: More recording and music! A lot of enjoying the summer and sunshine, really anything that brings me joy.TRB: Anything else you would like to add, Angelique? Thank you for your time! :)ANGELIQUE: I just want to say thank you so much to every single person who has listened to my music, shared it, cared about what’s going on in my life and so on and so fourth. It means the world, and of course, thank you for having me!
