INTRODUCING... INDIE POP SINGER-SONGWRITER JULIA BHATT

Julia Bhatt is the seventeen young Indie pop songwriter and singer fusing her rapid fire vocal delivery, unique textures, multiple genres including Bossa Nova on her debut single "Tall". A song in which she reflects on teenage life in Miami and her ongoing struggles with mental health. I talked with her about her single, music, inspirations, and more which you can read below.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: I always start with a fun icebreaker question. So pancakes or waffles?

JULIA BHATT: Waffles for sure. Belgian, if you really want to know ;)

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Let’s talk about your song “Tall.” What's the inspiration behind it? Your creative process going into?

JULIA BHATT: I wrote it a while ago, and I didn’t really know what was happening. I just wrote it and didn’t think much of it, which is kind of what I do for most of my songs. It was definitely not premeditated in any way; I sat down and turned it out.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Expounding upon the previous question what’s a typical writing and recording process like for you?

JULIA BHATT: The same, kinda. Most of the time, some shit happens and I feel a certain way, I write about it. It just kinda comes out. The recording process is pretty different. It is very planned and thought out, just because you have to use your time efficiently in the studio and you don’t wanna waste anyone else’s time or talent by doing things without thinking.

TRB: Let’s talk single artwork and how it ties in to your song “Tall”?

JULIA BHATT: I did a photo shoot with Shervin Lainez, and I sent one of the pictures to my friend and artist Violet Handforth, who just kinda went off. She’s very creative and has a very distinct style, which is what I really like about it.  Matches the song a little, don’t you think?

TRB: What advice do you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

JB: Don’t stop just because it’s hard. There’s a lot of shit that happens to get in the way of the things we want, and that throws us off. Don’t let it throw you off. Keep going. It sucks but life’s a bitch.

TRB: How do you feel that social media has plays a part in being an artist today and in your growth as an artist?

JB: I’ve definitely been able to get a better grasp of the artists I admire. Especially with younger artists who use social media as a platform for more than just music. Not like the accounts run by a management team, but accounts like RATBOY’s, who I talk about a lot because he’s so talented in so many different ways, not just music. I’ve been able to see his art, rough drafts of songs not yet released, and skateboarding videos. His music is in Fifa, yet he’s here posting whatever the fuck he wants. I really admire that.

TRB: If you could collaborate with any artist past or present who would you collab with and why?

JB: Well, as I said before, I really admire RATBOY, just because he’s this amazing artist in so many different ways, but he does his own shit in his own way. Same with Julian Casablancas. They’re both doing so many different, interesting things, and I’d love to throw some of my bullshit in there, too.

TRB: What artists and bands have been “On Repeat” for you lately?

JB: I’m getting back into Vampire Weekend right now. I didn’t stop listening to them, but I started listening only to new shit I found, so they got a little lost. Foster the People is also a common one for me.

TRB: And what’s next on the horizon for you, Julia?

JB: Another single should be coming out in the next month or so, but after that, I’m not sure. Hopefully good things!

TRB: Anything else you would like to add?

JB: I always like to give a special shoutout to my hedgehog, Ernie. Love you, buddy.

TRB: Thanks for your time! :)

JB: Thanks for having me!!! :)))
