GUEST BLOG: SINGER ANNA DELLARIA TELLS US HER SUMMER SONGS

ANNA DELLARIA TELLS US HER FAVORITE SUMMER JAMS!

Los Angeles based artist Anna Dellaria has always used music to heal starting at a young age. When Dellaria began her studies at USC's Thornton School of Music and began to hone her voice and craft. There the music industry began to take notice of the singer/songwriter. Anna utilizes music to deal with anxiety and tell stories. Her latest single (and music video) for “Cut You Loose” is out now. Anna teamed up with us to do a guest blog of her favorite summer songs. You can get the low down below…

Need U Bad - Jazmine Sullivan

  • Jazmine Sullivan is just one of the greatest vocalists of all time and this early collab with Missy Elliott is too iconic not to have on every playlist.

Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder

  • I got really deep into the entire Stevie Discography when I was 17 and spent that entire summer blasting Hotter Than July & Talking Book and this song in particular just feels like driving through Berkeley or Telegraph Ave with these gorgeous harmonies carrying you along.

Ex-Factor - Lauryn Hill

  • This entire album is obviously a classic.  This song in particular is just light and breezy but still so deep that you can replay it forever.  I'll never have enough words or the right words to describe Lauryn Hill so just go listen to Miseducation, please.

Ooh-Ahh - Grits

  • Idk if this is just a Bay Area thing but this song simultaneously makes you feel good with the chorus, and contemplate how to grow from a struggle with its lyrics.

Wrong Way - Sublime

  • When I was 12-14 I was obsessed with Sublime.  Looking back, a lot of their lyrics weren't the kindest towards womxn per say, but something about the rawness of the sound always drew me in.  This song reminds me of sneaking off to loud music festivals in Mountain View over the summer.

Window - Still Woozy

  • Just honestly love Still Woozy and this latest single is just another feel-good song that makes you wanna roll the windows down and vibe.

Roses - Outkast

  • Do I need to explain this one?

Just Friends - Musiq Soulchild

  • I can't help but smile so big and sing along every time I hear this song.  Doesn't matter what mood or when.  It's so sincere and silly and honest - I feel like he literally bottled up an adorable, flirty moment and successfully put it in a song.

Carolina - Kimbra

  • Everything from the sound design, to the melodies and production on this whole record just makes me feel like I'm floating in sonic bliss.  If you don't know Kimbra's work (no, "Somebody That I Used to Know" doesn't count) then definitely check her out. She is a musical force.

Truth Hurts - Lizzo

  • Listen, I know you already know.  I fell in love with Lizzo after hearing "Coconut Oil" and when I saw her live at Outside Lands soon after my adoration and obsession only grew.  She is a stage queen and whether you're single or not, her music has a way of making you feel like the best version of yourself.

Just Like You - Donna Missal

  • This is brand new off of her latest album, but when I first heard the chorus it felt like a familiar nostalgiac melody infused and translated through Donna's interpretation, and all I can say is I cannot wait to scream the chorus as loud as possible at her next live show.  Listen for a good bitter post-break up jam.

Keep On - Kehlani

  • The bassline and groove of this song is so damn simple, but just feels so good that you can't help but move your head or foot along to it. Definitely another "roll the windows down and pull up to a stoplight on the way to the beach and let this blast" moment.

Suga Suga - Baby Bash

  • You should already know, and if you don't then you're missing out.

L.A. - Murs

  • Honestly, there are a lot of California/Bay Area/LA rappers/hip-hop groups that I grew up heavily listening too but Murs represents such an awesome in-between of the seriousness and playfulness of both. I met him one summer at Rock the Bells Music Festival when I was in HIgh School and he was just the kindest person ever.
