INTERVIEW WITH… L.A. POP R&B SONGSTRESS LACI MERCEDE

Laci Mercede will take part in a special pre-Halloween online concert on Friday!

At only 22 Laci Mercede is creating her own magic. An L.A. native Mercede says she uses music to learn more about herself. The singer-songwriter’s new single ‘Using You Using Me Too’ is a push towards a new narrative. Her new single mixes sultry bedroom pop and confessional R&B. On Friday Laci along with other L.A., based artists will take part in a live stream concert called the ‘QUARANSCREAM’. Expect what looks like a night of music, fun, and spooky live entertainment from local artists. Ahead of the October 30th event, I chatted with Laci and you can read it below!

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Hi, Laci… How are doing you? Any plans for Halloween?

LACI MERCEDE: I’m doing amazing, honestly just staying busy during this quarantine. I am having a small close-friends type of hang out at my house! I feel weird about going to big parties right now because of the state of the world, but I’m gonna do my best to make it worth while!

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Will you be playing your newest single “Using You Using Me Too”? Can you talk some about how this track came together? What the creative process was like?

LACI MERCEDE: I will be playing it! I played the chords in my bedroom one day and showed them to my friend, Gabby Neeley. We wrote the melody/lyrics together right then and there. Then my friends Robbie Dean and José Maldonado produced the song, and Luke Mitchell mixed/mastered it. The song all came together in this magical timing. It has been a favorite of all my friends since I made it, so it was time to bring it to the world. Knowing the world loves it too means so much to me.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What’s your dream musical collaboration and why?

LACI MERCEDE: I think getting to write a song with H.E.R. would be insane for me. I think her musical knowledge, as a prodigy and all, would make me a sponge around her. I just wanna learn from her.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Switching gears… What’s a piece of pop culture that’s made the most impact on your life?

LACI MERCEDE: I think Beyoncé releasing her album without any promotion will full music videos to all the songs changed the music industry completely. Since then, every time I drop a song, I drop a music video. She’s very innovative for that.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: If you could write a song about any fictional world what world would you choose and why?

LACI MERCEDE: I definitely have references in my songs about fairies, so I’d probably just go more in-depth with that if I could. Getting to dive into a magical world of any kind is cool for me. I’m constantly in my own head in the clouds.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Since you’ve got a Halloween live stream show coming up. What’s your three go-to picks for the perfect Halloween playlist?

LACI MERCEDE:This is Halloween” from the Nightmare Before Christmas, “Disturbia” by Rihanna, and…. screw it, my song “Using You Using Me Too“.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Thanks for taking the time out Laci! Is there anything else you would like to add? 🙂

LACI MERCEDE: Thank you for having me! I can’t wait to release more music this 2020! Stay on the lookout via my socials to see the exciting things I have coming up!
