Pop Newcomer Christian Grech finds his sound and audience on TikTok he chats here.
Christian Grech is a pop-focused singer-songwriter fresh out of Williamsburg, VA. The young talent has been honing his skills on TikTok by posting covers and songs. Along the way building up an audience. Grech who has singing since childhood shows an array of influences on his new EP, ‘Tattoo’. I got a chance to chat with him about that EP, TikTok, life in lockdown, and much more. Read it all below…
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: How have you been? How are you adjusting to this new creative life?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: I’m actually doing pretty well, all things considered. I actually just moved into my first apartment with my S/O and we are adjusting to the new place.
CHRISTIAN GRECH: I love being able to focus more on creating music and figuring out who I want to be as an artist. I notice that I often need to remind myself that I am in fact WORKING when I’m writing. It’s not just something I do because I can anymore.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: You released a new EP titled ‘Tattoo’ at the beginning of this year. Can you dive into more of the creative and recording process of it? How did you have to adjust your plans of promoting it due to quarantine?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: That EP took about a year to produce. I worked with Pipe Dream Studios to produce the instrumentals from scratch for each record. It took a lot of trial and error to piece together each track so I think that made them all extra personal. Promoting the record has been very strange during the quarantine time but online promotion has prevailed for me and social media is always a serious tool.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What track from the ‘Tattoo’ EP took the longest to pen down?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: I think “Nosebleeds” took the longest to get out, I was going back and for with how I wanted to get my message across.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: You were born in NY and grew up in Williamsburg, VA. How do you think those distinctive places show up in your music and sound?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: Being born and raised in drastically different places encouraged me to experience a wide variety of artistic content. I’ll never feel like I’m done learning different ways to make music.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Seeing as how you started on TikTok. How do you feel TikTok will play a part in finding artists and new music in the coming years of the music industry?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: I feel like TikTok has given individuals a very high probability of exposure to a diverse community, and either TikTok will continue to be the leaders in this or other platforms are going to jump on.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Whose some of your favorite up incoming music artists on TikTok?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: Ricky Montgomery
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What’s your dream musical collaboration and why?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: Donald Glover because he is a genius, and I just want to be able to talk to the guy!
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What are your picks for album and song of the year for 2020?
CHRISTIAN GRECH: Album – The Slow Rush by Tame Impala
