GUEST BLOG: INDEPENDENT POWER POP ARTIST YUI STONEWELL SHARES HER FAVORITE NOSTALGIC TUNES

Today I wanted to highlight a Tokyo based Independent Electro-Pop artist that reached out personally. Her name is Yui Stonewell and she creates nostalgic Power Pop often with her creative partner and Brother. Her latest single ‘Invitation’ is out now and Yui has shared her favourite nostalgic tunes in light of.

Say You'll Be There - Spice Girls - This was one of my most favourite Spice Girls songs! I loved the melody, could sing it by heart and the younger version of me felt confident and super cute when I would sing this into my hairbrush!

Come On Over - Christina Aguilera - I particularly loved the music video for this song! I loved Christina's dyed red streaks (I wanted to copy it so badly!) and this was definitely a song that made me jump up on the couch and sing out loud!

Tragedy - Steps - My whole family was obsessed with Steps! They had the most catchy songs with some simple choreography that fans could follow. I remember my little sister dancing to this when she was a baby and it was so adorable.

Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega - Listening to this song now, I don't think I should've been singing it as a child... but I LOVE it nonetheless! It's still one of the catchiest melodies I've ever heard and it reminds me of the time when I sang this and danced around with my childhood friends!

I Try - Macy Gray - I remember listening to this song as a child and feeling oddly connected to it. Though I hadn't experienced heartbreak or the intense feeling of missing someone far away at that point in my life, the simplicity and direct storytelling of the lyrics made me love this song. A song that has definitely stuck by me through the years.

Never Ever - All Saints - My brother (who is my current music & business partner) and I loved this song growing up. It was on all our mixtapes and I remember listening to it constantly to learn the lyrics. It has an amazing flow and the words are pieced together magically. Songwriting goals!

Sometimes - Britney Spears - The cutest love song - perfect for the tween heart! This was a popular slow dance song at middle school dance parties. I was one of those awkward kids who would walk out or go to the bathroom during a slow song though! I was never a good/confident dancer and I definitely wasn't popular. But I loved and still love this song. Gotta love the 90s fade out at the end!

Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! - Vengaboys - My best friend in elementary school liked this song and got me hooked! Such a fun song and never fails to lift my mood!

Blue (Da Ba Dee) - Eiffel 65 - This song literally blew my mind when I first heard it. It was stuck in my head (still is) and I could not listen to it enough. It's repetitive, doesn't really make sense and has a consistent beat... but it's absolutely genius, in my opinion :)

Bring It All Back - S Club 7 - I really loved S Club 7 growing up! This song is special to me because friends and I choreographed a dance to this for a gym class assignment. It was scary, messy, and I can still remember feeling sick and nervous the day of the "performance". I made it through though, and I actually covered this song with my friend last year! Available on YouTube!

Heaven's What I Feel - Gloria Estefan - My dad loved this song when I was younger. It reminds me of him and brings back memories of driving around the city blasting this song in the car! I sang this song for my dad on Father's Day recently and recorded a YouTube cover of it too.
