Hello Forever is the Art-Pop Collective started by Samuel Joseph featuring musician friends of Samuel. The groups’ debut album ‘Whatever Is It’ is out February 21st and was recorded across Southern California, echoes the sounds of the 60s, with their jovial harmonies and doo-wop rhythms, and bouncing guitar sounds. Check out my interview with Hello Forever below.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What was the recording and writing process like for the album ‘Whatever It Is’? Especially since this was a more unorthodox process?
HELLO FOREVER: We were grateful to record anywhere and anytime we could. We had friends who let us borrow their recording equipment and bought some cheap home studio stuff. We were really fortunate to have access to resources — that’s the practical side of it. Our creative process is really about letting go of judgements and letting go of critical decisions about how to make music. We listened to where the music wanted to go.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Since there is a lot of 1960s sounds and inspirations on this album what band or artist from that era do you feel Hello Forever’s spirit best incorporates?
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Switching gears… If you could live in any fictional universe, which would you choose?
HELLO FOREVER: The one we’re all living in and creating currently, which is what we call reality. On the flip side, an alien planet filled with fruit trees would be cool. I’d love a mango that’s the size of a bus.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: If you could collaborate with any artist past or present who would you collab with and why?
HELLO FOREVER: Do I have to choose just one? Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Sun Ra, Mozart, Debussy, Shakespeare. There’s so many great people, especially The Beatles if I had to choose just one. But literally any of these I would be so stoked about and it’d be such an honor to work with any of them. I would be so stoked just to meet them.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Are there any artists that have been “On Repeat” for you lately? What music have you been listening to?
HELLO FOREVER: I’ve been listening to Revolver, The Lemon Twigs, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo’s Echos Hypnotiques, Judee Sill’s Heart Food, GINGER by Brockhampton.
THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: To end… what’s next on the horizon for Hello Forever?
HELLO FOREVER: We’re working on our next album right now and you should be hearing some of those this year. We’re also doing some festivals and touring which we can announce soon.
