Raye Zaragoza tackles self-acceptance and societal standards on new track ‘The It Girl’

Singer-Songwriter Raye Zaragoza has used music tackling important issues since her debut ‘Heroine‘. An artist on the rise she quickly realized the power in speaking the truth and advocating for others. Raye has used her gift for good panels speaking at panels in SXSW and Bonnaroo.

One of Raye’s most outspoken struggles has been with identity. Being a multicultural Brown girl in an industry mostly cohabited by white men and women. Furthermore, told that her beauty doesn’t measure up to society’s standards can take a toll. That’s where Zaragoza choose to rise instead of fall, creating the poignant track ‘The It Girl’. A song that harnesses society’s harmful ideal of feminine beauty by throwing out all preconceived notions of it. It’s an outcry for women to stand in who they are and for diverse representation. The visuals show Raye going through a season of change allowing herself, to grow and mature. Zaragoza realizing that she is the ‘The It Girl’ as well, flaws and all.
