THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What is your favorite thing about being your own boss? What tips would you give to others who want to also go down that path?

LASH FARY: Self-employment isn’t for everyone.  I personally have never been cut out for being micromanaged (or managed at all to be honest).  I am results oriented, and I like to decide the path I take to get there.  But there’s also uncertainty involved in doing your own thing.  Being limited by corporate ceilings, advancement timelines and hierarchy isn’t part of my DNA.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: How did the Everyone Wins Gift Bag come to fruition? I love that you always feature a variety of items that are unique and at different price points.

LASH FARY: It began, and still is, meant to soften the blow of not taking home an Oscar…since the vast majority of nominees will not be “winners” on Oscar night.  Now more than ever, the concept of brightening someone’s day is paramount.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: In terms of this year’s Everyone Wins Gift Bag, do you have any favorites? What’s the entire process like from start to finish when building each gift experience every year? How do you always know what’s now and what’s next?

LASH FARY: The beauty category is always my personal favorite.  I genuinely love discovering new best-in-class products for myself … and in turn being able to recommend them to friends.  My go-to luxury skincare line for five years now is Miage Skincare.  My go-to vitamin C serum is Instytutum’s Brightening C-Erum.  Danucera’s D-22 Tonic is a miracle in a bottle.  I also discovered so new amazing products this year: Petty Pout lip butters with SPF, Partake Bodycare Luxury Bath Soaks, ILIA Beauty mindfully-designed makeup brushes and IERIAS NAMA’s universal mist. Luckily our brand partners are sharing what’s new and exciting so I get to keep up on trends and developments that way.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Was there a pivotal moment when you knew that Distinctive Assets was going to be as big as it is? Or even work?

LASH FARY: We knew immediately that the win/win/win/win aspect was special…DA, our brand partners, celebrity recipients and our event partners all benefit.  I couldn’t have anticipated the longevity of having that still be the case 26 years later.  But I think it speaks to the power of a great gift.  Everyone, regardless of fame and fortune, has a positive reaction on a cellular level to being acknowledged and receiving a present.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What’s one question you wish I’d asked you, and how would you have answered?

LASH FARY: Favorite nominees this year? Timothee Chalamet and Demi Moore.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: And lastly, How do you see yourself and Distinctive Assets in the next ten or more years?

LASH FARY: I hope I will have learned how to cash in on all of the AI and other technological improvements.  I’m still very analog in many ways … being over 50 makes me a bit resistant to a lot of the new generation’s content creation and non-television-based viewing platforms.  I need to carve out time to learn how to implement some of these advancements.
