Alexander 23 is the emerging singer-songwriter from Chicago whose current track “Mars” is creating a ton of buzz. I got to pick his brain a bit on a few of his faves, his songwriting and habits and touring with Alec Benjamin. Check it all out below!

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: I always start off with a fun icebreaker question. So Red Vines or Twizzlers? 

ALEXANDER 23: I come from a Twizzlers family.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Can we talk a bit about your new song “Mars” and how the writing and creative process was for it? The recording process as well? Was it a similar process as your previous songs “When I Die” and “Dirty AF1s”? 

ALEXANDER 23: Mars, like When I Die and Dirty AF1s, was written fairly quickly.  But it did take me years to process the emotions that led to the writing of Mars.  It’s always a nice feeling when it just clicks.

TRB: What musician would you love to collaborate with? And Why?

A23: Bad Bunny because he is the best and I’m his biggest fan.

TRB: You’ve been on tour on Alec Benjamin and shared the stage with 5 Seconds of Summer? What was that like? Did they give you any advice? Tour tips?

A23: Tour with Alec and the show with 5SOS were both amazing.  I learned a lot just through watching. Seeing what kind of things get reactions.

A23: You Get What You Give – New Radicals

TRB: In what part do you feel that social media has played in your growth as a artist? 

A23: It has just been an amazing tool to connect with fans on a deeper level. I love hearing why they gravitated to my music and what it means to them.

TRB: And what’s next on the horizon for you?

A23: LOTS OF NEW MUSIC COMING ALWAYS. Also, super excited for Lollapalooza, I’m from Chicago so it has always been a dream of mine to play.
