Interview With Sydney Quiseng of Alternative Pop Trio Echosmith

I chatted with Sydney Quiseng, the lead vocalist of Echosmith just ahead of her bands’ big one off (and sold out) concert at The Mint LA this Monday. The show is also doing double duty as a baby shower for Sydney and will be an extra special night for the trio to celebrate. You can read her interview for The Reclusive Blogger below.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Hi, guys what are most looking forward to at this special one off Echosmith show coming up at The Mint in LA? The show is also a baby shower for Sydney. What are you guys most excited about show-wise? And for Sydney, if I’m not being too forward, what are you most looking forward to about being a first-time Mom?I

ECHOSMITH: I have a feeling this will be a night that I’ll never forget. The part I’m most excited about is the fact that we’re also making the show a gender reveal. I’ve never been to a concert themed as a baby shower, let alone seen a gender reveal during a show like this. It’s going to be really special to share this moment and celebrate this new phase of my life with our fans in our hometown. I’ve always loved kids and I love being an aunt to my niece and nephews, so I can’t wait to be a mom. I love getting to do music and I’m beyond excited to bring my little one on this journey with me.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Another question for Sydney, you have branched out into a successful solo career but in another genre how do you think your foundation of being in your band Echosmith has helped you in this stage of your career?

ECHOSMITH: I’m grateful for where Echosmith has taken me so far and it’s really cool that I still get to do both my solo career in the country/Americana space and my family band in the indie-pop world. I started touring when I was 16 so it’s beyond helpful to have that foundation and experience as I step into something new. I can’t believe we’ve been a band for 19 years and I still get to do what I love, now in two different ways.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What do you think fans will be most excited about for The Mint LA show? Will you being any deep cuts or any cover songs? Can you spill any details?

ECHOSMITH: The setlist will be really fun and well-rounded with our most popular songs, but also some deep cuts from each season in our career, including the music I’m releasing now as a solo artist. We’re also going to have brand new merch debuting at the show. The piece I’m most excited about is a very limited Echosmith T-shirt that will be blue or pink! It’ll only be available after the show/after we reveal the gender…

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What is your earliest musical memory that you have as band?

ECHOSMITH: Our very first show happened because a family friend was putting on a benefit concert and needed someone to perform for free. That was the day that we formed our band. We played a bunch of covers from The Cure to Rage Against the Machine and soon after, we started writing songs together and doing band practice in our garage pretty much every day.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: What were some of the artists, bands, or sounds that were influential to you guys growing up? How did they shape the Echosmith sound?

ECHOSMITH: 80s new wave music was a huge inspiration for us when we made our first album. Bands like Joy Division, New Order, and Talking Heads taught us how much more fun music was when it was super melodic, not just in the vocals. Coldplay and The Killers were also big inspirations for us.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: I always ask everyone I interview what they love listening to. So, what was the song or album that defined your 2025?

ECHOSMITH: In 2025, I loved the albums Thinking Too Much by Joshua Slone and Older (and Wiser) by Lizzy McAlpine.

THE RECLUSIVE BLOGGER: Lastly, what’s next on the horizon for each of you? What do you want to tell your fans? Also, thank you for taking the time out for this interview.

ECHOSMITH: This show will be our last show for a little while, and I think it will be the perfect sendoff into motherhood. I also have my second solo EP releasing extremely soon (release date will be announced in a few weeks!). We are currently writing new music and excited to put stuff out later this year. Singing and songwriting was my first love so I can’t wait to see how becoming a mom shapes how I see and create music. I’m so grateful to all our fans for being on this journey with us through the years and for all the supportive messages since I announced my pregnancy. It truly means the world to me.

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule, Sydney to answer these questions!
